galaxy, commanding a force of powerful starships and land units to
help to exercise your will.  Your objective ...  is simply to
conquer or colonize every planet in the galaxy!

TUTORIAL

There is an on-line tutorial available to you once you execute
CRUSADE from Windows.  It is located within the HELP information
which can be accessed by selecting the "Help" menu item.

Installation instructions are provided later in this file.

The crusade contained in this shareware version is called
"sharstar.g" and takes place within the SharStar Galaxy.  It is the
first crusade you should play with this version of CRUSADE.
Instructions for loading the crusade can be found within the
tutorial.

A more difficult crusade is provided called "hardstar.g" which you
should play after completing the "sharstar.g" crusade.

CRUSADE COMPUTER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

The CRUSADE game requires MS Windows 3.1 or greater to run.  Your
computer should be an IBM PC Compatible 386, 486 or Pentium that
operates at 25Hz or faster, and contains at least 4MB of Memory.
CRUSADE needs 4MB of free hard disk storage to uncompress and
operate.

If you have a 386 based computer, then you should play CRUSADE at
the 640x480x16 resolution to obtain the best game performance.

If you have a 486 based computer, then you can play CRUSADE up to
the 800x600x256 resolution for the best performance.  CRUSADE can
play at higher resolutions.  However, CRUSADE will perform better at
the lower resolutions.

If you have a Pentium based computer, then you should enjoy
excellent performance from CRUSADE at any supported resolution.


SOUND CARD SUPPORT

Sound Support is provided through the use of MPC2 Compatible
Soundcards.  Most of the popular soundcards (SoundBlaster, Pro
Audio, Turtle Beach, etc.) are MPC2 Compatible.  The soundcard
package typically contains a symbol that indicates MS Windows
compatibility, which often, but not always, means the soundcard is
MPC2 Compatible.  If you have a question regarding your soundcard,
then contact the dealer where you obtained the soundcard, or better
yet, contact the manufacturer of the soundcard.

INSTALLATION

CRUSADE can be installed using a "setup.exe" program contained
within the zip file or by using the Program Manager in Windows.

You should place the CIS113.ZIP file in a directory of its own, and
use PKUNZIP to unzip it.

USING "SETUP.EXE" TO INSTALL CRUSADE

After unzipping the Crusade in Space file, use the Program Manger in
Windows to run the installation setup program, "setup.exe".

From the Program Manager menu:

1) Select FILE/RUN.
2) Select BROWSE.  Select the disk/directory where the unzipped
   contents of 1CRU116.ZIP currently reside.
3) Select "setup.exe" from the list of files extracted from
   1CRU116.ZIP and click OK.
4) Follow the prompts provided by the setup program to move
   CRUSADE to another disk/directory, and to create a program
   item to execute it.

USING PROGRAM MANAGER TO INSTALL CRUSADE

After unzipping the shareware file, use the Program Manger in
Windows to create a program item for CRUSADE, which should execute
the "star.exe" program.

From the Program Manager menu:

1) Select FILE/NEW.  Accept the "Program Item" setting and click OK.
2) Enter "Crusade in Space" in the "Description" field.
3) Select BROWSE.  Select the disk/directory where the unzipped
   contents of 1CRU116.ZIP currently reside.
4) Select "star.exe" from the list of files extracted from
   1CRU116.ZIP and click OK.
5) Enter the complete path (disk/directory) where the unzipped
   contents of the shareware version currently reside, in the
   "Working Directory" field.
6) Select CHANGE ICON, select the CRUSADE icon.
7) Click OK to complete the creation of the program item.

REGISTRATION

When you register CRUSADE you will receive the CRUSADE GENERATOR
which will allow you to create an unlimited number of variably sized
and populated galaxys with the "Galaxy Generation Feature"; and will
allow you to create an unlimited number of games of various
difficulty, alien mix and to even customize the complement of forces
each side receives with it's "Game Generation Feature".

You also will receive the licensed version of the CRUSADE PLAYER
(which does not have finite stardates); which can play the games you
generate, and the four (4) SPECIAL CRUSADES that are offered below.

   SPECIAL CRUSADES

   "The Terrans Emerge!" - As the Terran Emperor, you will control
   the development of the Terrans out into the KausKais Galaxy.
   What lifeforms will you encounter? What challenges face you?

   "Zardulan Quest" - You command the most powerful lifeform in the
   universe .... the mighty Zardula.  All others bow before you ...
   or will they?  Try to conquer the De'atar Galaxy if you dare.

   "A Tioran Test" - As the leader of the timid Tiorans, can you
   still manage to conquer the KausKais Galaxy against great odds?

   "The Cassian Challenge" - The most agressive and powerful lifeform
   of the universe awaits your puny empire.  Ha! Ha! You will not win
   this crusade into the De'atar Galaxy.

GAME HINT

This is a very complex game, that plays in a simple manner.

It is critical to your success as an Emperor to read the on-line
HELP and TUTORIAL from the Main Map Menu.

Each important control panel, also contains specific on-line HELP
that is available by selecting the QUESTION MARK button.
